What are you most proud of contributing to your organization?  This past year, I worked for a Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon and helped to raise $7,000 to help support our cause. Also, I  worked with a group of individuals who are trying to put a new YMCA on King Street in Charleston.
Were you involved with any previous volunteer activities?  I volunteered with an organization in my hometown that was dedicated to child safety.  We informed parents of child safety tips and performed car seat safety inspections. I have also volunteered for my church through the homeless ministry by helping out in soup kitchens.
What do you enjoy about community service?  It is very gratifying to interact with people who truly appreciate the help you offer.
What is your most memorable volunteer experience?  While in high school, our basketball team volunteered with "Toys for Tots."  We were the only young group working and were expected to be there at 5:00 in the morning. We thought it was going to be extremely boring. We had the opportunity to interact with kids in the community and we all ended up having a wonderful time.
What have you learned about yourself through volunteering?  I have learned that the homeless aren't as different as they appear. often times they've just had a streak of bad luck and wound up on the streets.
How do you think your friends and co-workers would describe you?  I think they would describe me as being hardworking, passionate, loving, and humble.
What would you tell someone who is thinking of volunteering?  It doesn't matter what type of volunteering you get involved in, what matters is that you volunteer, and once you are involved, the spirit of giving is so contagious that you will never want to stop.
