About Elaine Alford...
Hometown: Goose Creek, S.C. Major: Early Childhood Education Expected Graduation: May 2012

Past Volunteer Activites: In high school, Lanie was the Honor Society's vice president and was involved in coordinating many volunteer campaigns. Heading a recycling team after the city had to remove the school's recycling dumpster, volunteering at nursing homes, and the Adopt a Highway Organization are just a few examples.

Current Volunteer Activities: The most recent activity that her organization did was help out with the Cinderella Project. They provided prom dresses free of charge for teenage girls who couldn't afford them otherwise. She also helped out with the Cajun Festival here in Charleston, providing a helping hand doing whatever needed to be done. Lanie has multiple upcoming events that she will be volunteering her time for, including the LowCountry Orphan Relief and Relay for Life which raises funds for the American Cancer Society.

What are you most proud of contributing to your organizations? I am most proud about the fact that I can give back to my community by offering my time. I really enjoy and appreciate the reaction that people give receiving our aid of assistance.

How do you think your friends and family would describe you? I think that they would say that I am compassionate, outgoing, and optimistic

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering? Do it! The reward that you will get back far surpasses the time it will take out of your day.
