Brianna Fletcher says her family and friends would describe her as a loving, compassionate person who is eager to help those around her in anyway she can.

She is especially passionate about helping underprivileged children. For the last two years she has sought out any opportunity that she can to work with kids and help them understand that they are loved and cared for.

Her kindness and joy spread to those around her and are the root for her desire to devote her time to helping others.

As you learn about Brianna in the article below, you may realize that no one on campus better personifies the Cougar Volunteer Spirit!

About Brianna Fletcher...
Hometown: Sumter , S.C. Major: Elementary Education Expected Graduation:Spring 2010

Past Volunteer Activites: I worked at Royal Family Kids Camp last summer. I was a lunch buddy at Memminger Elementary fall semester 2008.

Current Volunteer Activities: I currently volunteer for an after school tutoring program for elementary children this semester. I am also planning on working Royal Family Kids Camp again this coming summer.

What is your most memorable volunteer experience? Getting to make an impact in the lives of abused and neglected children. All these kids have never known what genuine love is like and so getting to love them and show them God's love through that is amazing.

What are you most proud of contributing to Royal Family Kids Camp? Getting to see the change in the children through the week as they begin to accept love freely and see that not everyone has to be paid to be with them because everyone in their life is paid from their foster parents to their caseworker. I also love seeing them realize that they are of worth and that they are cared for.

What do you enjoy most about community service: It is the most rewarding experience. The feeling you get is simply indescribable.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with Royal Family Kids Camp? You go in thinking that you are going to make a difference in these children's lives but somehow you come out realizing that they have made more of an impact in your life than you feel you've made in theirs. It is a truly life changing experience that makes you realize how blessed you are and how you should not take anything for granted. You become appreciative of all the little things in life. Also make sure you are emotionally prepared when you go in because it does take a lot out of you. You definitely can't underestimate the challenges that you will face personally through this camp.

Information about your organization? Royal Family Kids Camp is a nation wide camp that has 145 camps across 37 states and 19 camps internationally. It is a camp for abused and neglected children ages 7-11 in the foster care system or group homes. The mission of the camp is to create positive memories for the children in a free (for them) one-week camp experience and to show them that they are apart of God's family and truly are of worth.
