Charlye Marger is one of our busiest volunteers!

She has given of her time, energy and helping spirit to the South Carolina Aquarium, Angels on Horseback, and has tutored Hispanic children in English.

Marger is currently involved with the College of Charleston's Volunteer Corps, which has worked with numerous local organizations and events including the Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Dash for Trash, as well as several local festivals needing some extra workers.

Along with her studies in international business, Charlye is minoring in Italian. This summer she's headed to Italy for two months. Improving her culinary skills is on her to-do list and we think she's picked the right country for doing that!

About Charlye Marger...
Hometown: Jasper, Ga. Major: International Business Expected Graduation: May 2009

Current Volunteer Activities: C of C's Volunteer Corps which is part of the school's Community Service Center

What is your most memorable volunteer experience? Working with a girl who was blind and deaf who loved riding horses at Angels on Horseback! I am hearing impaired so I know a little sign language allowing the girl and I to communicate. Next time when I was not the volunteer she requested me to continuing helping her ride!

What are you most proud of contributing to your organizations? Time and effort. It actually feels strange because I will no longer be needed as an officer after being in Volunteer Corps for two years as the coordinator for projects and events for volunteers.

What do you enjoy most about community service? Making people smile.

How do you think your friends and family would describe you? Outgoing and silly.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering? If you are willing to share your hands and heart to help others go for it! It is the best feeling in the world knowing that you made someone's day!

What are your plans after graduation? I am heading to Italy for the summer for two months improvising on my culinary skills and then I am considering the accounting program at CofC in the fall or law school.

If someone wants to learn more about our school's Volunteer Corps, how can he or she go about it? Volunteer Corps works with the Community Service Center at CofC. Lauren Vinciguerra and Anna Branscomb are the new president and vice president for this upcoming fall. Emailing us at volunteercorps@hotmail.com is the best way to reach us but we do hang up flyers and send out announcements for upcoming projects and meetings. On Facebook, we are at Volunteer Corps.
