Richard Paul Davis
Big in Little League
By Sascha Moser

Richard Davis
Richard Paul Davis

Freshman Richard Davis is all about helping others, not only in his numerous volunteer activities, but also when it comes to everyday life. Richard helps where he can. When I first met him I would have never guessed that he is such a patient and dedicated teacher to the children

he coaches. He is fun to talk to and makes every conversation a blast, yet adapts to a five year old in a matter of seconds. And one thing is for sure: the kids love him!

About Richard Paul Davis...
Hometown: Charleston, S.C.
Degree objective: Major in History, Minor in Secondary Education
Expected Graduation: May 2008
Community Service (current and past): Walk for Life (coordinator for Kings Bay, Georgia), volunteer for Little League assistant coach in football and soccer
What has been your most memorable volunteer experience? When I look in the eyes of the little kids I coach I am rewarded every time.
What has been your proudest moment as a volunteer? After a soccer game we won, one of the kids came up to me, gave me a hug and told me: "Mr. Davis, we couldn't have done it without you!"
What do you enjoy about community service? I enjoy helping the little kids making something out of their lives. I think the fact that they are doing sports instead of sitting around playing video games sets a good foundation for later life and makes me proud.
What have you learned about yourself through volunteering? I found my future career field. I would have never thought that I could work with children, but coaching Little League showed me that it can be fun and is very rewarding. I want to become a teacher now.
How do you think your friends or co-workers would describe you? They would describe me as friendly, outgoing and fun.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering? I would definitely tell everybody to volunteer for whatever cause. It is rewarding to know that you have actually done something with your life just by helping someone.
