Lizzie’s volunteer track record only confirms these statements.
On top of balancing 17 hours per semester as a freshman exercise science major (a segment of the physical education department), she lends a large portion of her minimal spare time to the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC.
Lizzie offered countless hours in high school as well to the Chambliss Children’s Home in Chattanooga, Tenn. before enrolling at CofC this school year.
Lizzie volunteers three hours at a time, once a week at MUSC'S Hollings Cancer Center. In doing so, she goes door to door to all of the patients on the floor - checking on them, bringing them gifts, and mainly offering them that beautiful, priceless smile that would brighten up anyone’s day.
“I work with people who are less capable, which makes me more humble,” Lizzie says, “And it's not the act of volunteering that has changed my life, but the people that I work with.”
She plans to continue volunteering just as much next semester, even though she will be taking on an intimidating 18 hours of classes.
Lizzie admits that volunteering has made her much more grateful for what she has in life and recommends it for anyone and everyone to get on board.
