TRACY BORCZYK
Charleston Center for Women

A Passionate Volunteer
By Meaghan Cronin

A perfect way to describe Tracy Borczyk is someone who would describe herself as “average” when it is clear to everyone around her that she is anything but.

Tracy has not only pursued a major and two minors, but somewhere in her extra time she has managed to lend herself and her time to more than one volunteer organization. Working for causes such as the Center for

Women, and the Elder Supportline she has given countless hours helping the people in our area who need it. She is always willing to help and hopes that people will beas goodwilled as her and join the cause.

She is enthusiastic and loves meeting new people, I could not think of better traits to possess when volunteering. With her ambitious view of life, it is clear that she will go far, helping many others on the way.

What are you most proud of contributing to your organization?
As the charity of choice for the Family Circle Cup, I have spent hours preparing informational material for the Center for Women to distribute during the week long tennis tournament. I am proud of this contribution because the organization is going to get a lot of exposure, and the information I have prepared will help women of the lowcountry know about the Center and what we have to offer.
Previous Volunteer Activities: Elder Supportline; Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center; Big Brothers/Big Sister of America
What do you enjoy about community service?
The thing I have enjoyed the most about volunteering is the different people I have gotten to meet. As a college student, you are usually very limited to who your friends are and who you interact with daily. When you volunteer, you are exposed to many different types of people, who come from different walks of life. I have met many great people through volunteering that I continue to stay in touch with, that I probably never would have met.
How do your friends /co-workers describe you? Energetic and ambitious.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?
I would tell them to choose a cause that they are passionate about. Volunteering can sometimes become overwhelming and exhausting, but if you really care about what you are doing, you will work through it. Furthermore, passion is contagious, and if you feel strongly about what you are doing, others will begin to feel the same way.
